Prescription Only Medicines
Please note that many medicines are designated 'POM', and are controlled by Royal College Regulations. This means that repeat prescriptions can not be dispensed unless your pet has been checked in the last four months (flea preperations and wormers twelve months). by the veterinary surgeon and his authorisation has been given. This is designed to check for adverse reactions and to ensure the dose and medicines are appropriate for the patient.
You may obtain Prescription Only Medicines, Category V (POM Vs) from your veterinary surgeon OR ask for a prescription and obtain these medicines from another veterinary surgeon or a pharmacy. Your veterinary surgeon may only prescribe POM Vs for animals under his or her care. A prescription may not be appropriate if your animal is an in-patient or immediate treatment is necessary.
You will be informed , on request, of the price of any medicine that may be prescribed for your animal.
